Master Cleanse - Like Being on a Nude Beach (Day 11)
I was stationed in Coronado for a while when I was in the Navy…studied Surface Warfare before going off to serve in Japan.
One morning I went for a run along the beach in La Jolla. I kind of looked up ahead and saw what I thought were a couple of hundred people running around….without clothes on…naked, nude, that sort of thing.
It was 20 years or more ago and I was a Midwestern Bible-belter and naive to say the least. I had never heard of nor thought of there really being a nude beach. But…I had heard that California was different.
So, I decided to run on up a bit closer to make sure it was a nude beach. It was.
People playing frisbee, naked. Playing vollebyall, naked. Running, naked. Having lunch, naked. Swimming in the sea, naked.
I could tell who the rookies were, they were
bright red in all the wrong places and facing some serious hurt with
sunburn in tender places that evening. The new boys were all giving
directions…but always pointing straight ahead.
Then I realized something, everyone was indeed in the raw, the buff, nude, naked, in their birthday suits, except me.
I was the only one still with his clothes on and I felt weird. With my clothes ON, I felt strange.
That’s how I feel the morning after finishing the Master Cleanse (Day 11).
The fridge is no longer off limits. I know I need to take my time,
slowly get back into the eating thing. But still…I had a bowl of very
mushy, over-steamed veggies, with chicken broth and I felt WEIRD.
I am eating, a perfectly normal thing to do, and it feels weird.
After 10 days of absolutely no solids whatsoever, it feels strange to
actually eat.
Is it okay? Can I really eat something? What will become of the past
10 days? Doing something totally normal seems so completely out of
place…like wearing clothes on a nude beach.
Stilll…get out of my way…I am heading for the kitchen…and,
just for the fun of it, having dinner with friends tonight. The Master
Cleanse over.
