Safety wall across highway risks lives of motorists
Motorists travelling on a highway in Xian in western China, slammed in to the wall built by the road officials. The wall was apparently built to protect the workers who were repairing the highway.
The wall did not have any sign or lights on it that would warn the motorists of the danger ahead. Zou Tieqin, who survived a crash on the wall said,
“I had my family in the car and I suddenly saw the wall in my headlights. I braked but it was too late and I went straight through.” Zou’s family was lucky, as they were saved by the air bags installed in the car.
However not many were so lucky and continued to bang the wall. Motorists who fell victims to the deadly wall have demanded compensation from the road officials. Surprisingly, the workers kept rebuilding the wall every time the wall was hit by a car. The workers also said that the lights installed on the wall were stolen.
